What goes in a day’s log

The same six parts every day, on every job, so a log from March reads like a log from today.

The sky is stamped on every day

Temperature, wind and rain for the job’s address, recorded with the log. When a client asks why the deck slipped a week, the rain days are already on file.

Problems carry a follow-up

A damaged box or a no-show sub gets a date and an owner, and it stays on the board until someone closes it.

  • Damaged sink base box
  • Mudroom bench framing
  • Under-cabinet wiring

Dear Jen and Sam,

Drywall is finished in the kitchen and mudroom, and every wall is primed…

Friday’s update is drafted from the week

Five logs become one page for the client: what got done, what’s next, what you need from them. You read it, then send it.

First, say what happened

Talk into your phone in the truck, type it, or paste a text from your lead. Two lines is enough.

Questions

Do I have to talk to it? No. Type the note, dictate it, or paste a text your lead sent you. Two rough lines are enough to start a log.

Where does the weather come from? From public weather observations nearest the job’s address, read at the start and end of the workday and stamped onto that day.

Does my crew need accounts? Leads get a link for each job and can send notes and photos from it. Only the people who run the company need a login.

What does my client see? Only the weekly update you send. Crew hours, sub names and internal issues stay off it unless you switch them on.

What if there’s no signal on site? The note and photos wait on the phone and go out when you’re back in range. The log keeps the time you said it.

Can I fix a log after it’s stamped? Yes. Every change is kept with a name and a time, and the weather stamp stays as it was.

Can I get it all out? Download any day, week or whole job as a PDF for a dispute, a lien release or your own records. You can also export a spreadsheet.

How is this different from a camera app? Photos are one part of a log. Site Almanac keeps who was there, what got done, what went wrong and what the sky did, and turns the week into a client update.

What about ChatGPT? Later, you’ll be able to log a day from ChatGPT by saying what happened. It isn’t built yet.

Do I pay per user? No. Each plan is one flat monthly price for the company. Plans differ by how many jobs are active at once.
